I was going to title this post: A Man and His Wife – Part II, but there is lot more here. Some warriors fight using weapons and sci-fi like gadgetry, others fight with their soul. We all too often hear about the first kind, we all too often celebrate them while crying over their loss, over their ultimate giving of themselves…

Those who use their soul to fight for other souls are seldom heard of. The names of Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivky were suddenly, tragically, without warning, thrust into the consciousness of the world. Lord knows they didn’t ask for the notoriety. Lord knows they would have preferred to quietly continue providing services to their community and Jewish visitors from around the world but, alas, that was not to be…

The following videos, attempt to give us a glimpse of the soul of these two warriors murdered with their guests. Sitting back and enjoying a life of learning and teaching Judaism in a comfortable home in some American, European or Israeli city could have been a viable option… Instead they felt they had a larger battle, more souls to bring back into the fold, in a far away exotic land. Mumbai, a city where an ancient Jewish community never before experienced the horrors their brethren elsewhere had to endure. Mumbai, a city that attracted Jewish backpackers, world travelers, and businessmen. Mumbai, a place that lacked a warm spot to learn about Judaism, a place to get a kosher meal, a place in a strange land where a young Jew could pour out his or her heart.

The following videos are very worthy of our attention. They’ll help us understand what prompted a young, good looking, couple to let their souls reach out and touch other souls.

Part 1

Part 2

When someone departs this world, the soul is eternal but it moved to new surroundings. The one soul this loving couple shared was a warrior’s soul. With love for every Jew, with total dedication to everyone who needed them, to everyone who ever crossed their path, they succeeded – in spite of their youth – in snatching many from the bitterness of despair, drugs and worse.

Then its successive ascents from level to level depend on the actions of the persons below. Now contrast their life, their courage, their love, their achievements, their legacy, with the arrogant, self important hater who – by having an international stage for his rantings – finds an excuse to spew his hatred. Willam Pfaff, writing in the International Herald Tribune is unable to smell the irrational, intransigent, IslamoFascist haters of the West, in those horrible deeds in Mumbai and everywhere else. For him it is all the fault of dem Jooz and the US… Pfaff, in spite of incontrovertible evidence found both by India and Pakistan since the tragic events, speaks of presumed Muslim extremists. Ah, these murderous lot who in their fanaticism were hoping to kill as many as 5,000 American, Brits and Jews are merely victims… Yid With Lid who pointed it out to me, explains it best. Have a look, it’s well worth a read!

I guess his transparent hatred for Jews and the West has addled his brains. There is no question in my mind that when his time comes, as the Holtzbergs’ souls successively ascend, Pffaf’s soul will be busy traveling in the very opposite direction…

We’ve all seen and heard the heart wrenching video and pictures of the Holtzbergs’ two year old Moshe. We’ve all heard him cry out “ima, ima – momy, mommy.” “Mommy,” the first word every single one of us ever learned, a word that is a cry for protection, a cry for food, a cry for love… Moshe will no longer receive his nightly kiss as his mother would put him to bed, his father will no longer, lovingly, laughingly, play with him… But with their lives and their deaths they left him a gift no money can buy, they gave him a lesson on how to live and how to die as Jews.

While I have been a Warrior of The First kind I have always Admired the Spiritual Warriors… They go places that I would never attempt without back up. Rest in Peace Brother and Sister.

Your post made me cry. It also made me humble myself in front of Hashem.

We fight with our souls, we fight for God! Amen
