It is comforting to know that Israel’s leaders, for the last 15 years, have and continue to make the right decisions at the right time.

Shimon Peres was right when he spearheaded the move to let Yassar Arafat back into Israel and be given the Gaza Strip and Jericho on a silver platter. Peres and then prime minister Yitzchak Rabin were right when they signed the Oslo peace deal essentially ceding most of Judea and Samaria to the PLO, all in exchange for… for… in exchange for anything?

The Palestinian Liberation Organization whose very existence was predicated on sowing death and destruction on Israel had changed, the leaders told us. Ariel Sharon and his Defense minister were right when they decided to uproot 26 Jewish settlements in the Gaza strip in a unilateral withdrawal dubbed the “disengagement “. The said that this was a window of opportunity for Israel, an opportunity that would bring greater peace and security. Did it?

Ehud Barak was right to unilaterally withdraw from Lebanon in a fortnight saying that no one would now dare to shoot any missles from Lebanon into Israel. It just won’t happen. Yep, the leaders are always right. Always!

It would be petty to mention to Shimon Peres the slaughter of hundreds of Israelis on buses, in hotels and anywhere else imaginable because he and others thought another Arab state was needed in the Middle East. It would be unfair to blame him or anyone else for letting a future Noble prize winner like Yassar Arafat lead the peace movement for a new Middle East. It would be childish to say ” I told you so ” to those who supported Ariel Sharon, to who were warned that a unilateral withdrawal from Gaza would bring missles on Ashdod and Kiryat –Gat (nobody even thought they might even reach Beersheba).

Nope! It just wouldn’t be nice to tell Ehud Barak them that a complete hurried retreat from Lebanon caused almost half the country to be within missile range with scores of civilian deaths and that it showed the weakness of the entire Israeli Army. It would be not be nice to remind him to remind him of the horrors of the last Lebanon war. No, it wouldn’t be nice to show him how his unilateral withdrawal brought bloodshed on both sides.

These leaders were not wrong. Such a possibility is out of the question!

And who is making, even now, the decisions that will effect the lives of all Israelis and Jews around the world?
610xEhud Olmert -The Prime minister – (Ariel Sharon’s understudy who was a major a major force in Sharon’s successful disengagement)
Shimon Peres - The Honorable President of the State of Israel
Ehud Barak – The Defence Minister – (The one who had the brilliant idea of pulling out the Israeli Army from Lebanon in just a few hours, 8 years ago)

And what is the decision they have now made, what has their superb strategic thinking come up with now?

After the IDF seemed to have the upper hand in almost every aspect of the latest fighting in Gaza, as Hamas was about to disintegrate, the decision was made to stop, to stop and retreat. Every military strategist in history must be thinking this is so idiotic, it is actually brilliant. Brilliant in the sheer depths of its suicidal foolishness

Nobody had really thought of that option! No one with half a functioning brain could have!

Hamas is still mostly intact as a political organization and fighting force. Its stature enhanced as it claims victory. Its stockpile of rockets is still extensive, its means of smuggling still operational. In addition they still have Gilad Shalit, yet no Israeli politico, no top honcho, bothered to mention him or demand his release!

Do not question the leaders judgment. Isn’t it obvious that they know what they are doing? When bloodshed returns and the number of victims increases many fold they’ll have excuses and many others to blame.

Let’s have some faith in the leaders. After all they understand best what is really good for us.

Does anyone really have any doubt?

This is for Mr. Walman. It is just one of the traits of a Cluster B Personality Disorder suffered by far too many world leaders, IMHO:

A common bully tactic. It goes right along with changing the subject and making accusations. As long as he can somehow make you believe that it was all your fault, he’s off the hook and you’re either left wondering what just hit you or you’re falling over yourself (and him) to make it up to him. If you go for the latter option, there is a good chance that he will milk it for all it’s worth.

It’s not always your fault though. It could be his boss, the clerk at the grocery store, the bank teller, the guy who cut him off on the freeway, a lack of sleep, a worrying situation … anyone or anything at all as long as it’s not him.

Blame shifting is not always obvious because it is not always directly linked to the situation at hand.

Either way he wins. If nobody in the situation is to blame, then there is no way to resolve the problem. If you are to blame, then you must fix it. As for him, he is just an innocent victim and utterly blameless, therefore unable to do anything at all to find a solution, but totally justified in being a sod.

A book called “Political Ponerology” talks about the prevalance of evil in political leadership. Leaders like the ones he described are out of touch and seem to care less about the well being of their people. To me, that’s evil. Charismatic evil that sucks the public into thinking these are good guys when all they really care about is themselves.

A ran across a commentary yesterday called “WILL ISRAEL RESTART THE WAR?” I thought, “Are They Kidding???” Then I remembered how willfully oblivious the media is to the truth (in addition to being full of Arab sympathizing writers). I am just waiting for Hamas to start lobbing kassams back into Israel. Somehow this will be Israel’s fault for “asking for it.” :S

The post is masterful and facetious! I loved it.

It will unfortunately be Israel’s fault 12 to 18 months from now when hostilities begin anew again. It will be Israel’s fault simply because, here and now, they decided to snatch Defeat from the jaws of imminent Victory.I would even consider this more of a defeat than that which it had suffered from Hezbollah in 2006.

I still don’t consider 2006 a defeat. It is a defeat only because just like today, Israel caved to International Pressure when they had victory at hand. At least in 2006, there was actual International Pressure.

Yesterday, Israel on its own, decided to call a cease-fire. Yes, International Pressure was mounting, but it was not near enough to have forced Israel to abide. They could have continued for at least an additional 3 days, until tomorrow when Obama takes office.
