The United Nations was founded in the aftermath of WWII, because its predecessor the League of Nations had failed miserably at preventing wars, at presenting massacres. The UN Charter states its purpose as working towards international security, economic development, human rights, the active pursuit of world peace and fostering dialogue between nations.
WWII left over 50,000,000 dead, between civilians and combatants throughout its European theater. All because of the folly of a crazed, obsessed, German dictator – Adolf Hitler. He outlined his political ideology, his set of twisted beliefs in his Mein Kampf – My Battle. Its first volume was published in 1925, the second in 1926. The world did not believe him and ignored his book, instead history clearly showed us how little we can afford to disbelieve, to ignore, the abhorrent rantings of a powerful, charismatic madman.
Thus having learned how dangerous murderous tyrants can be, reeling from the unprecedented death toll, shamed by the prejudice and hatred exhibited in the last war, the UN was founded in 1945. It’s history has been varied. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adapted in 1948 it was authored by such world famous humanitarians and jurists as Eleanor Rooseveldt and Professor Renee Cassin. This gave rise to the discredited and disbanded Human Rights Commission. In 2006, after it was all too obvious that some of the nations with the worst human rights records made up the majority of the Commission’s member in high profile positions it was replaced by the Human Rights Council which has become even worse than its predecessor. In 2003 some of UN’s upper echelon were involved in the Oil for Food Scandal, here and there quite a few more scandals and corruption were uncovered at the world body and its various institutions throughout the world.
Though it started with 51 member nations it now counts 192 member. What started as a lofty idea, what seemed like a plausible solution for the world’s ills, however, has become little more than an insult to the memory and idealism of its founders. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is daily trampled by the very members of the one Organization that is supposed to develop and spread and safeguard those rights in areas that have few or none. The lofty ideals of Mrs. Rooseveldt and Professor Cassin have been reduced to mere pieces of paper, as ruthless despots the likes of Gaddafi and others are allowed into the UN General Assembly to lecture the world on the meaning of peace and democracy.
Some who pride themselves of Holcaust denial are accorded great honors and received as world’s statemen, as in the case with that putrid little maggot Ahmadinejad. He has shown, after the recent fraudulent elections in Iran, how ruthlessly adept he and his guards (the Basij) are at shooting, killing and wounding opposition demonstrators. Imprisoning, torturing and raping countless others (regardless of gender)
Today there was demonstration against Ahmadinejad’s presence in New York, expressing revulsion that he was allowed to speak at the UN. Many organizations, Iranian, Jewish, Christian, Black and Spanish cosponsered it. It started at the Dag Hamarksjold Plaza right across from the main UN complex in Manhattan. Here are a few of my photos:
The purpose of the rally…

The crowd in my vicinity:

Signs galore:

Flags…

Many speakers from government, unions, ethnic and civic organizations spoke eloquently. Embattled NY State Governor David Patterson spoke well, with passion and heartfelt words. Many spoke before and after him and all had one message: “Free Iran, free Iran, free Iran!!!”

Blowing the Shofar. The walls of Jericho came tumbling down, in the biblical narrative, when Joshua had his trumpeteers blow the shofar as the walked around the primeter of then heavily fortified Jericho. The symbol here is that Ahmadinejad and the Ayatollahs regime, will too soon come tumbling down!

Even among the crowd there those who brought along their ram’s horn and let its sound be heard…

An Iranian woman whose father has been in Iranian jails since 2001:

Former New York Mayor, Rudi Giuliani:

Former Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Dore Gold:

Meanwhile at the other end of the long plaza, Neturey Karta was enjoying itself to the utter disbelief of many non-Jews, including Iranians:

They start them out early, don’t they:

Rabbi Moishe Ber Beck, the Neturey Karta leader in Monsey, New York. Here he is standing before the Gates of Infamy during the Ten Days of Repentance…

I’m not in the least bothered by these guys opposing Zionism (Anyone reading this blog knows I spare no criticism of Israeli governments),
what I do care about is who they ally themselves with. We’ve all seen the myriad videos on YouTube and pictures in many a publication with leaders of Neturey Karta hugging and kissing Ahmadinejad, praying for the recovery of arch-terrorist Yasser Arafat (who died of AIDS anyway!). Tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are!
Meanwhile, for those of you who are fashionably “progressive,” as you unthinkingly wade in the mud of anti-American, anti-Israel, anti-Western thought, as you applaud and praise every despot who ever rose against the US, as you exercise your freedoms (unparalleled in any other in any other land on the planet!) reflect on these below as you “defend” human rights around the globe and mourn for every terrorist who died or has confessed:

Pamela, over at Atlas Shrugs, has the transcript of Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech before the general Assembly. You can read it there, but I will quote one his mention of Ahmedinajad:
“But to those who gave this Holocaust-denier a hearing, I say on behalf of my people, the Jewish people, and decent people everywhere: Have you no shame? Have you no decency?” “What a disgrace!”
The UN contrary to the spirit on which it was founded, has become a den of thieves, despots, revisionists and liars. Sadly, Bibi was right. The UN has no shame, the UN has no decency!!! Pity!
