“My dynamite will sooner lead to peace than a thousand world conventions. As soon as men will find that in one instant, whole armies can be utterly destroyed, they surely will abide by golden peace.”

Unfortunately, history has proven Alfred Nobel horribly wrong. I have no doubt he was sincere in his quest, therefore I have no doubt that were he still around today he would be more than appalled at the political games and the increasingly self inflicted irrelevance, the bad joke the Nobel Peace Prize is becoming. Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel (1833-1896) the inventor of dynamite had a dream of ending wars and benefiting mankind in a number of disciplines.

Alfred Bernhard Nobel was born October 21, 1833 in Stockholm Sweden. Nobel, who invented dynamite, endowed a $9 million fund in his will. The interest on this endowment was to be used as awards for people whose work most benefited humanity. He wanted the profit from his invention to be used to reward human ingenuity. First awarded in 1901, the Nobel Prize is still the most honored in the world.

In 1842 Nobel’s family moved to St. Petersburg, Russia where he obtained his education. He traveled widely as a young man, becoming fluent in five languages. Nobel was interested in literature and wrote novels, poetry and plays in his spare time. In the 1860s he began experiments with nitroglycerin in his father’s factory. He tried many ways to stabilize this highly volatile material. Nobel discovered that a mix of nitroglycerin and a fine porous powder called kieselguhr was most effective. He named this mixture dynamite, and received a patent in 1867.

He set up factories around the world to manufacture dynamite and other explosives. Construction and mining companies, and the military ordered large quantities of this relatively safe explosive. Sales of dynamite brought Nobel great wealth. His other chemical research provided valuable information on the development of artificial rubber, leather, silk and precious stones.

The Nobel Prize is awarded for Medicine, Chemistry, Physics, Literature, Peace and Economic Sciences. Since 1901 when the first Nobel Peace Prize was awarded, many distinguished individuals who toiled hard, and against all odds, to bring about peaceful conflict resolution and the advancement of human rights. It also has been given to individuals such as Yasser Arafat (1994, shared with Israel’s Yitzchak Rabin and Shimon Peres), who did everything he could to torpedo any chance of peace with Israel even if he did sign an agreement with the Zionist Entity prior to his being nominated.

Jimmy Carter, the man directly responsible for the rise of the Ayatollahs (by refusing to help an ally and sealing the fate of  the Shah) in Iran and Robert Mugabe (in direct contravention of his country’s democratic will) in Zimbabwe also was the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize (2002). All in all, history has not been overly kind to the mixed record of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, although the majority of its recipients have been very worthy of the award. Now, for 2009, the Peace award has gone to US President Barak Obama follwed by almost universal incredulity by the man on the street: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35h_sSENcUc&feature=related)  Even Europeans, far more liberal than the average American, wonder what institution could have awarded this prestigious prize to someone who has – so far – done NOTHING of any consequence (whether for peace or anything else!).

The deadline for Nobel Peace Prize nominations was February 1st, merely twelve days after Obama assumed the Presidency of the United States. One must wonder what fawning, what Messiah like worship, which sycophant mind(s) perpetrated such a hoax on the concept of peace and on mankind as a whole. Mahatma Gandhi, who accomplished far more, never received the prize though he was nominated 17 times. Obama, who so far accomplished all of NOTHING, got the prize on his first nomination!

According to Nobelprize.org, he received the prize “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples” Honestly, gentle reader, other than his eloquently reading a telemprompter can you name even one “extraordinary effort?” Can you name even one result that actually strengthened “international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples?” Frankly, many a liberal was surprised and shocked as wel!!! Even CNN questions the rationale behind the prize, hear the inane explanation by one of the Nobel judges:

The truth is that unlike the other Nobel prizes which awarded by people who are actual professionals in the field, the peace prize is awarded by Norwegian politicians, far to the left of the rest of Europe. Perhaps these “honorable judges” feel that the American people will be so overwhelmed by the POTUS receiving this prize, they will agree to roll over and play dead relaxing any opposition to what is about to befall them…

Once again, SNL hits it on the nail! Once again the joke’s on us average Americans…

Even Chavez, who seemed to like Obama at the UN and when they first met in April, couldn’t understand what the POTUS had done to deserve the honor.

Chavez: Nobel peace committee overlooked US wars

Granted Hugo, was probably frustrated that neither he nor the great humanitarian Ahmadinejad were so honored.

Unreal that Obambi won, huh? It’s mind boggling… I think we’re living in the Bizarro world, frankly.

When you look at the people PASSED OVER in favor of Obambi. And my goodness he wasn’t in office 2 months when he got NOMINATED!!!

    Great post as always!

Interesting isn’t it that YouTube no longer has the video of SNL ridiculing Obama’s receiving the Nobel Prize.

Shutting down free speech… is THIS the change we hoped for?
