Internet usage is expanding rapidly, with more than 20% of the world’s population already using the internet actively. Of this number, over 40% are under 30 years old.

The internet has become a standard tool for university and high school students for almost everything imaginable. This includes listening to live or recorded lectures, doing research on material studied and even taking exams. There seem to be any a dearth of tools designed specifically for this demographic group. Multi-billion dollar websites have been created for the social needs of internet surfers like “Facebook” and others, but none seems to have been geared to something that can help students study and do research faster, more efficiently, better targeted. At least… not until now, that is!

A startup company in Israel, gogimon, is busy developing an application that will revolutionize study and research habits everywhere. In the past, a student would read notes from a lecture or study material from a book and mark with a yellow marker the crucial sections needed for exams. With the onset of the Internet this became simply marking the relevant sections in yellow and printing out the text for more intensive study. Now a student will be able to automatically mark sections that he or she needs and they will be pasted into a file for future reference. In addition, students and lecturers will be able to receive updated information on any research topic, as soon as it becomes available. For example, anyone involved in the ongoing study and research on a subject such as “breast cancer” would be informed about the latest developments in “Breast Cancer” research. This will also involve an option to IM with other working on that specific topic through the search machine network. Thus, a new social network based on study and research topics will be created.

Another startup company that students and researchers will find useful is Qoof, which is the first video commerce platform that maximizes the commerce potential of online video through a unique networking service that matches e-Tailer videos with web publishing channels. It passes on online video ads by placing e-stores in widget form across the web.

Yet another Israeli startup may be changing the job search for students, just coming out of university, with original and unique technology to bring job seekers and companies together in a very natural way. Realmatch has changed the landscape of online recruitment by introducing Real-Time Job Matching ™, a technology that allows employers and job seekers to specifically define themselves, their needs and their preferences, they seem to be leaps and bounds ahead of other Job websites. I may be speaking about them at length in my next article.

Yes, folks, Israeli technology startups are teeming with ideas and knowhow that will revolutionize the way knowledge is distributed. Just as importantly, those ideas include exciting ways of optimizing how we utilize that knowledge for the betterment of us all.
