If I walked up to you, gentle reader, and slapped you in the face I have no doubt that you would not only try to protect yourself from another blow but you’d also do your best to retaliate in a way that would make me unequivocally understand that whatever my problem is, slapping you won’t solve it. Your might even make me feel on my own person that continuing with the same behavior might end up very badly for me. I have no doubt that before you sit down to discuss with me what the solution to my slapping problem might be, you will be reasonably reassured that while we talk I won’t resort to violence again. Furthermore, no matter how valid my reasons may be for wanting to hit you, I know you will not willingly give me another opportunity to strike you again.
Yet, with the myopia she acquired as soon as she stepped into Colin Powell’s shoes and started getting schooled by James “F… the Jews” Baker, the once brilliant Condi Rice is expecting Israel to bend over for every bully in the ‘hood and keep rewarding them for getting slapped!?!?!? Makes a lot of sense, especially while we claim to be engaged on the “War on Terror!” Doesn’t it, gentle reader?!?!? Like her predecessor, Condi continues to reinforce the idea that the definition of who’s a terrorist depends on the State Department’s need for instant gratification at the particular moment. For the purpose of instant gratification, the once brilliant Dr. Rice will revise history even on events that happened as recently as 2000.
As The New York Sun tells it today:
Secretary of State Rice is voicing an apparent policy shift on the disputed Shebaa Farms, a move designed to shore up support for Lebanon’s prime minister, Fouad Siniora, but one that could backfire, diplomats said.
In an unannounced visit to Lebanon yesterday during which she met with Mr. Siniora, Ms. Rice called on the United Nations to use its “good offices” to “deal” with the sliver of land known as Shebaa Farms. Supporters of the Shiite group Hezbollah say the area, which Israel captured from Syria during the 1967 war, is part of Lebanon. Ms. Rice’s comments came a day after she chided Israel for its settlement policies. They also followed reports that predicted a prisoner swap between Israel and Hezbollah, and came as Israeli and Syrian officials met with Turkish mediators.
At the United Nations, diplomats were caught off guard by Ms. Rice’s remarks on Shebaa. “For a long time, the Americans pressed the U.N. to keep a low profile on this issue. Now she wants the U.N. to resolve it,” a diplomat familiar with the issue, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.
Israeli officials declined to comment on Shebaa, but the traditional government position has been that Israel’s complete withdrawal from all parts of Lebanon, including Shebaa, was certified by the United Nations in 2000. The area is strategically placed on high hills that abut Lebanon, Syria, and Israel, and Israel’s military has reportedly placed sensitive surveillance equipment there.
Prime Minister Olmert’s chief of staff, Yoram Turbovitz, and national security adviser, Shalom Turjeman, conducted a second diplomatic round of talks with unidentified Syrian officials Sunday. They discussed “real content,” Ynet quoted Israeli sources as saying. Previously, the possibility that Syria would officially declare Shebaa Farms part of its territory was offered by Damascus in the so-called Turkish track that was established between Mr. Olmert and President Assad of Syria through Ankara, according to several reports in Israel.
Hezbollah started saying Shebaa was an occupied Lebanese territory shortly after the 2000 Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, as a pretext to maintain its armed “resistance.” Last year, Mr. Siniora called for Shebaa to be placed under the control of the United Nations.
The fact remains that in 2000 after Israel’s hasty withdrawal from Lebanon, when today’s Defense Minister Ehud Barak was the Israeli Prime Minister, the UN under Koffi Annan expressed full satisfaction with the withdrawal and certified Israel had left all Lebanese territory! The fact remains that only after Israel’s complete withdrawal did Hizbullah suddenly think of Har Dov, or the Shebaa Farms, as an excuse for its continued existence as an armed militia. The fact remains that a look at any map of the area dating from September 1, 1920 onwards will show that the Shebaa Farms were never a part of Lebanon! At the time France, who was awarded a mandate over Greater Syria by the League of Nations, carved out the State of Greater Lebanon, as an ethnic (Christian Maronite) enclave. Lebanon became the Lebanese Republic on September 1, 1926 though it continued to be administered by the French Mandate of Syria. So, if Shebaa Farms was clearly never a part of Lebanon, but only a part of Syria why is Baker’s once brilliant disciple (Condi Rice) even discussing the subject?!?!?
Political acumen, conventional wisdom, simple common sense, all converge on the fact that the subject should best be left for direct Israel/Syria negotiations. However, considering that Foggy Bottom is so deeply steeped in its failed unrealistic philosophy of Realpolitik one can understand the dangerous foolishness, there is ample precedent! Why is our once brilliant Secretary of State even thinking of rewarding a terrorist Iran/Syria client (Hizbullah) while the terror organization has shown its true colors by ignoring UN Resolution 1701 and before it UN Resolution 1559, both forcefully calling for its disarming? It again showed its true colors when it embroiled parts of Lebanon in a bloody confrontation, last month. Do you think that the once brilliant Condi Rice is actually helping the cause of democracy in the Middle East?!?!?

[...]“What Condi said could backfire,” a U.N. diplomat who spoke about Ms. Rice’s comments on condition of anonymity said. “Instead of strengthening Siniora, it could boost Nasrallah.” The diplomat said that after being accused by allies of the Lebanese prime minister of igniting a war that achieved nothing but misery for the country, the Hezbollah chief could present the renewed Shebaa talks, as well as the heroic return of Lebanese “fighters,” as a victory none of his rivals could have achieved.
Once again Realpolitik is being successfully practiced, once again the forces of terror are being rewarded over the forces of democracy. The War on Terror is very selective and therefore completely ineffective! Obviously, John Edwards was right, War on Terror is only a bumper sticker!
But… in all fairness to the once brilliant, sweet Condi she’s not alone in fool’s land. The rewards for terror are now coming from an even more clueless party…
Israel has agreed to withdraw from the Shaba Farms, A-Sharq al-Awsat reported Tuesday, adding that Syria was exerting great efforts in negotiations between Israel and Hizbullah on a prisoner swap deal.
According to Israeli officials quoted by the London-based newspaper, as a result of the Syrian efforts, there would soon be a prisoner exchange deal.
The officials were also quoted as saying that Syria’s involvement in the Israel-Hizbullah talks “will lead to the opening of new horizons on the Shaba Farms issue.”
The officials reportedly claimed that Israel had agreed to withdraw from the farms “up to the last centimeter,” on condition that Hizbullah agrees to a cessation of violence against Israel that the Lebanese “case” is closed.
Israel had agreed to withdraw from the farms “up to the last centimeter,” on condition that Hizbullah agrees to a cessation of violence against Israel that the Lebanese “case” is closed. No doubt, Hassan Nasrallah and his puppet masters, the putrid little maggot Ahmedinajad and Baby Assad, will abide by any such agreements with the same diligence, with the same alacrity, they abide by UN Resolutions 1559 and 1701. Meanwhile, there is now proof positive (in case anyone doubted it before) that it is relatively easy to get anything you want from Israel’s Allmerde and the once brilliant Condi, in exchange for… more terror!

Chaim Dear Friend I am afraid you are wrong. Both Colin Powell and Condi Rice have been very consistant with their definition of terrorism.
“Terrorism is any attack on Civillian Targets designed to cause mass murder. The only exception is when those murdered or maimed are Jewish”
Mea culpa! You are right, as usual. But you also forgot the rest of the sentence as recently amended by the once brilliant Condi, the new exception is: when IslamoFascists are harassing minority religions throughout the Middle East, it’s even OK to reward them.

We are at war with terror, but our Secretary of State seems to ignore that. Why is she rewarding terrorists in Lebanon?…
