I am perplexed!

When it comes to elections I always look at a candidate’s record. What legislation did he or she sponsor? Where does he or she stand on issues that are important to me? While I never found a candidate that I could agree one hundred per cent with, while I never found someone without some flaws, I pride myself on voting only after I do an exhaustive study of those running. As a result, I have at times gone outside of my party when I felt another candidate was better.

As I look through Obama’s record of accomplishments I come up with an almost empty page. What has the good Senator from Illinois done to warrant mine or anybody else’s vote to become President? Where does he stand on the various issues that I care about? Look as I might, I find little or nothing about what he really thinks, or what he’s done. Oh, I do not mean about his speeches, he is a good orator! So was… Hitler and a few other charismatic speakers, mostly horrible heads of state! What does that prove?!?!?!? Besides, he flip flops according to whoever his audience is at the moment. Remember AIPAC?!?!?. Remember the backtracking on the Jerusalem issue the very next day?!?!?! I am trying to find out what his positions on various issues are, according to legislation he introduced, according to how he voted. When I ask some of his fanatical followers they too are unable to give me a coherent answer. But they just “know” he could not be too bad. What does that mean?!?!? I am perplexed!

I’ve been told that Obama stands for change. What change? From a Republican President to a Democrat President? How will that make America better?!?!? How will that shake up DC’s politics as usual? Oh, please, don’t give me some oft rehashed platitude you never fully analyzed. The good Senator from Illinois, in spite of his relative youth, is embroiled in at least as many financial scandals as far more senior politicians! Remember Countrywide? Remember Rezko? You can read all about the good Senator from Illinois’ financial dealings, here, and here, for starters. Yes, gentle reader, it’s all been done before… but… is that the change he’ll bring to Washington?!?!?

What about his foreign policy experience? He says he would sit down with our enemies without any preconditions… hmmnnn… Want to ask JFK (who had considerably more experience than Senator Obama) what happened when he sat down with Nikita Khrushchev?!?!? Kennedy himself later admitted, “He beat the hell out of me.” Ahmedinajad, Kim Jong Il and their ilk are wilier, more sophisticated, have far more experience, but… the good Senator from Illinois knows just how to handle them, right?

So, allow me to ask, what are his accomplishments, as far internal issues? Ah, yes, here he has a record… of sorts. His consistent voting pattern ensure gas prices go higher and higher, so that we are forever under the whim of the Saudis and other oil producing countries. Or maybe we’ll just stop driving, stop producing and export even more jobs outside the US… Yessss, I see his concern for the man on the street is definitely overwhelming, I am crying already!

So those of you who would not vote for McCAin because he’s a… REPUBLICAN, what proven alternative are you offering me instead?!?!? Think about it! Use your own gray matter, don’t repeat used and abused meaningless mantras. Can anyone give me a reason not to vote for McCain? A reason based on intelligent research, thought and careful analysis? Can you, while you are it, use the same reasoning and tell me why I should vote for the good Senator from Illinois?!?!? I challenge you!

Meanwhile until someone comes up with a good, logical argument based on facts as opposed to wishful thinking, I must admit that when it comes to the good Senator’s qualifications… I am perplexed!

I too have noticed that Obama’s success seems to be based on hype more than any thing else. How much of that is the affect of news medias?
