For those looking to start a keyword search, Google’s Adwords Keyword Tool was always a great starting point. Though the tool was designed as an aid for Google’s money maker Adwords many used it to jump start their generic search quest. The tool allowed you to put either a keyword or website and then gave you an entire list of related keywords with estimates of volume and competition. It was neat, easy, but often not enough. Well, all that has changed as Google now offers up real numbers on the amount of searches in the previous month. This fundamental change seems to have come out of the blue. It makes you wonder if Google is trying to squeeze out other companies providing statistics of search volumes. The undisputed search giant may have discovered that false information is worse than no information and therefore has offered real information

The next thing you might want to do is use yet another Google tool called Google Trends. If Google Trends seems to back up the Google Adwords Tool you will have a fair indication and numerical statistics on keywords. This is a break from the vague information Google gave you until now. Google until recently wanted only partial information revealed to encourage Adword use and thereby increase profit. Too much information on keywords would have focused many on certain keywords and may have lowered revenue for Google on other words. Now, the thinking is, the more information the user has the more likely he will spend his money wisely with Google. Google may also prefer to give out more accurate information than have other companies charge for inaccurate information.

By becoming known as the most reliable, they increase the searches and their potential revenue. In addition to all this it has improved its Google Trends application and made it an even more powerful tool. Until recently the Trends app only compared keywords and their relative traffic strength, now website traffic of different sites are compared. Someone who carefully analyzes and cross references this info can get a very clear indication as to where to place the greatest emphasis in terms of keywords. Of course this takes much effort and a lot of experience but Google has added new tools to help.

We can all expect Google to continue to pursue its recent trend of revealing tools that gives statistical information to users. It’s a Win Win for all except for those sites who until now have been giving bogus information.
