Title Contenders, or Also Runs?

Easy AdSense by Unreal

Very many are taking a hit at Google these days. Its like Google is the heavyweight champion of the world and everyone else wants a shot at the title. Some claim the champ is using unethical tactics in some of its programs like Gmail and Google Analytics.

The newest assertion is that popularity of a site and its back links should not be the main criteria for placement on SERPS. This is of course a lot of rhetoric as there can not be a more basic reason to list sites other than their popularity. It’s also clear that Google has more factors in its secret algorithm though popularity is probably very high up there. These attackers argue other factors are as important such as content, long tail or even personnel search preferences. Everyone says they know what’s wrong with Google and everyone, of course, is developing a search engine tool that will conquer the world and bury Google.

The list is endless, but here are just a few arbitrarily chosen contenders:

1.   Gogimon search channel
2.   cuil
3.   delver
4.   scour
5.   7search
6.   chacha
7.   exalead
8.   ask
9.   copernic
10. dogpile
11. mahalo

In reality, everyone fully understands the potential of the search business and is spending billions to try to catch up to Google. For most it will end up as a monumental waste of time and money. The simple truth is that Google probably incorporates most of the different criteria that its competitors mention. But, Google just doesn’t tell anyone what makes it tick. Google’s people are probably having a great time watching everybody try to take a punch at it, though most just manage a wild swing at best. What some of these competitors should do is join forces and really try to shake up the search market a bit. It probably won’t make any real difference but Google at least will take notice.

Frankly, if Microsoft with its seemingly endless budget couldn’t develop any real alternative to Google what are the chances of anybody else doing it? As a heavy weight champion was overheard before a fight saying to his adversary, no chance!

It takes money to make money. What Google and other search engines teach me is that there is a free enterprise system on the internet for those who have the money.

Microsoft’s pockets are far deeper than Google’s and they’re still unable to create a viable competitor. It takes far more than money to compete with Google. Google was there almost from the beginning and they’ve worked hard and are still working hard to refine their product.

Same with a business, money is certainly needed, but no matter how much of it there is it is not enough! If service, courtesy and product are not the first priorities that business won’t succeed.

Learn that, Donna, and your business will have a good fighting chance!
